I have the most annotations for 'men'
Do you think of the makers of the film and trailer intentionally tried to involve the top 2 groups and alienate the bottom two groups?
I think they did try to include men and teens because the whole film includes the interests of men (ie. Guns, Cars, Poker games etc.) but they related it in a way where the interests are based on a typical male's likes and dislikes. Teenagers would appeal to this as it includes both attractive men and women and most teenagers know who James Bond is. It also depends on what teenagers like but then again, the makers of this advert bases it around the typical average teen.
I dont think they meant to alienate the bottom two groups because the filmstill includes the interests of American Viewers because they would try and appeal to all audiences. American industry are well-known for their famous films therefore hope most Americans enjoy the action as it includes high tech things and expensive cars etc. My second bottom group is Adults, personally i think they tried to include the adults more.
- You can tell this fits in with the genre action adventure because the title 'Pirates of the Caribbean' suggests an adventure as 'Pirates' are known for travelling and accomplishing quests and 'Caribbean' is known as a big, large place for hunters.
- Also Johnny Depp is holding two swords which suggests a fight
- There is also a skull on the right which suggests death.
- This shows an action adventure film because it is a man running which suggests a chase.
- Facial expression shows fear and determination
- it singles out just a man
- This suggests action adventure because there is a gladiator on the front and is known for fighting.
- The colours suggest doom and horror
- His armour suggests action and fight, he is also in an arena and is holding a sword.

- This suggests action adventure as the scene at bottom suggests a quest
- There is an animal at the bottom with wings which connotes a battle with animals?
- The fact there is an avatar on the front and a man which are faded out which could mean opponent in battle?
I think the hardest print advert to define as action adventure is both Avatar and The Fugitive because the audience is so use to seeing swords and guns to define action adventure but Avatar shows none of this and is a fantasy; also The Fugitive is quite a simple cover and is hard to see its action adventure. It isn't very colourful or eye catching.
What should an audience expect from a film in the Action Adventure genre?
I think they should expect action sequences obviously and the typical hero and villain. They should also expect an intriguing plot which is solved in the end or continues throughout the trilogy. It should control how much we know to hold our interests and creates a mystery. People usually expect murder or fighting.
Why are Action Adventure films so popular?
Because they keep the audiences attention and are easy to follow. Most action adventures are hybrids which puts a twist in every action adventure movie (ie. romance, comedy). Its fun to watch the story unfold and are more entertaining than watching one based genre. They are usually high concept films where the whole movie can be easily summarised in one sentence.
Why do some people criticise action adventure films?
They can be too predictable and have a simple theme, also the lack of quality in the scripts and are very very very stereotypical.
