Today was the first day of work experience in The Farm Group. We arrived at 10pm and Mark Wynter put me and Rafia in the same kitchen together on the first floor. The people we were working with was Jesse and Richard (Rich). They were really cool and worked well with us as they were around the age of 19/20. They told us what they did like making toast and tea and coffee for the clients in each suite. At first we just sat around and watched them do stuff and Rafia and I just delivered it to the suites. During lunch Jess went out to 'Moolis' to buy our lunch which was a paneer wrap. Rafia and I sat on the sofa's and ate. Around 2pm we were back in the kitchen and joking around with the guys and introducing ourselves to the rest of the staff. We were chillaxing to the music and joking around with Jesse and Rich. It was a really fun day.Tuesday 17th May:
Today was another good day. Rafia and I were separated today to see how we get along. I volunteered to go on the 2nd floor kitchen while Rafia stayed down with Jesse and Rich. I met new runners today named Lacyn, Sam and Jamie. I did more work today as this kitchen provided for 2nd floor and 3rd floor. I helped making tea and coffee and delivering them. When preparing lunch everyone had to go out to collect food from restaurants; I had to go shops to get a packet of crisp. My lunch was Ali +Levi wrap and Rafia had cous cous which she didn't really like. We sat on the terrace in big, round swivell chairs. After eating we sat on the Apple Macs and 'socialised' with friends from school and took stupid pictures with Rafia. After this I continued to help in the kitchen until 4pm in which I could go home.

Wednesday 18th May:
Today Rafia and I were together but we did not work in the kitchen. Mark took us to CTA in which they digitalise tapes. A guy called Ben talked us through every machine and what it does. After lunch (Moolis) we were taken to MCR where they strip tapes and check for faults. A guy called Rob talked us through literally everything for an hour non-stop but it was surprisingly interesting; I had a go on stripping a tape which was fun. At the end we had a bit of fun as I had mentioned Rob looked like Mr Roberts at school and another guy looked like quagmire from 'Family Guy'. We were also having a laugh as Rob couldn't tell the difference between a brown and grey tape box. 15:45 we went back to the kitchen and ate some stuff and Mark said we could go but before we left we decided to go back to MCR to get a picture taken with the guys.
Thursday 19th May:
Today Rafia and I worked in the kitchen all day. We met a new person called Sylvia (Sylv) who was soooo cool. We just cleaned up, washed up, made tea and coffee, went for a run to 'Home' and just helped around. Today was a chilled day, at lunch Rafia and I were on the Macs and just socialised. We also saw RICHARD HAMMOND; he smiled at us!! The other runners also told us it would be a bad idea to ask for a picture with him because he was apparently 'nasty' ahaha. We helped in the kitchen alot today and joked around with Jesse and Sylv. When it was time to go, we got a picture with Sylv as she may not see her again as she may work in Shed.
Friday 20th May:Today was overall a very chilled out day; it was known as the 'drinking day' where everyone just drunk and had a good time. It was quiet. I just worked in the kitchen today.
Monday 23rd May:
Rafia and I worked in the kitchen all day. It was very very quiet therefore boring as most of the suites were empty. We did our regular jobs of cleaning and serving food and drinks. Rafia and I went out for lunch which was McDonalds; I bought Jesse chips. It was a very quiet chilled day.Tuesday 24th May:
Today was a very fun and different day for Rafia and I. We were sent to Audio 2 in The Farm and met a guy named Tom who was editting the finale for Total Wipeout for next year. I learnt alot today such as how to mix sound and commentary together. I found it very interesting to watch how Tom was using the fade sliders on the digidesk to control how loud the sound and commentary was. I found it very inspiring how they take in to account the loudness of the background noises and others to accommodate hard of hearing and deaf people where the bars cannot exceed 5/6. They are kind of immersed in their work that they listen out for the slightest sound that does not fit into the whole piece. Tom spent all day working on Total Wipeout and it was amazing to see all the effort he puts into it and how he ran through the whole tape slowly to look for small faults. At 3:30 Rich came to collect us and took us back to Uncle.

Friday 27th May:
Today was the last day at the farm group and since Rafia was at school doing her exam; I was in the kitchen

Well done for keeping a diary, please encourage Rafia to do the same. Also see if you can learn as much as you can about what they do and how they do it as I will be asking the two of you to do a presentation on your experience after the exam.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time and work hard.
I have; she will do it after work experience. I will start to take notes of what they do and will post it asap. Oh okay; we'll be prepared for the presentation; we have a few pictures too!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying it 100% at the moment. When are you coming to visit?
